Charles Barkley, the NBA Hall of Famer and outspoken commentator, has made a $1 million donation to Spelman College, an all-women's historically black college in Atlanta.
The money, Barkley said, was inspired by Jordyn Hudson, the daughter of his business partner John Hudson. The younger Hudson is a rising sophomore at Spelman who will be president of her class when students return in the fall.
This is Barkley's sixth time making a significant donation to an HBCU. Since 2016, he has given $1 million each to Alabama A&M University, Morehouse, Clark, Miles College, and Tuskegee University. Every other gift went to schools in his home state of Alabama outside of the AUC institutions.
