Benedict College is making a big push into the world of esports.
The school recently launched a new chapter of esports on campus, with a dedicated gaming room and plans to offer degrees and certifications in the field.
Benedict College is the first HBCU in South Carolina to have an esports gaming room and the first to offer an esports undergraduate degree and minor. The school is also partnering with Blaze Fire Games to offer certifications in the field.
This move comes as hbcu's around the country are starting to invest more in esports programs. With the growing popularity of competitive gaming, hbcu's are hoping to get a piece of the pie and provide their students with new opportunities.
So far, Benedict College seems to be leading the pack when it comes to hbcu involvement in esports in South Carolina. It will be interesting to see how other schools follow suit in the coming months and years.
